Au Gratin Potatoes

What you Need

Cutting Board and Carving Knife

3 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoons black pepper

2 cups milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 pounds (about 6 medium) russet potatoes, thinly sliced, peeled or unpeeled

¼ cup onion,diced

What to do

What to Do

Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat inside of a large casserole dish with cooking spray or oil.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat; stir in flour, salt and pepper until smooth.
Gradually add milk and cream; bring to a bubbly boil; cook ~2 minutes until thickened; stirring continuously.
Remove from heat; stir in cheese, potatoes and onion.
Transfer to casserole.
Cover and bake 1 hour; uncover and bake ~40 minutes more, until potatoes and sauce begin to brown on top.
Variation For scalloped potatoes, omit the cheese. You may also wish to add other seasoning to the cream sauce, such as garlic, parsley, etc.
